Guidelines on how to maintain a healthy YAM community.

Make sure to read and keep in mind as you interact with our community members!

Welcoming

We  hope to create a welcoming environment for new members and help them feel at home. You are encouraged to share tips, help navigate, and connect with new members, sharing our community’s warmth.

YAM’S CORE VALUES

Respectful

  • We ask that members appreciate and acknowledge the fact that every member has a unique story and background when participating in discussions. Even if a member has an opinion different from yours, it is important that you respect that and listen without judgment.

  • Nonetheless, if you believe that a post or comment clearly goes against our community guidelines, please report it to us using the report feature.

Supportive

  • Supporting other members in times of need is one of Your Airplane Mode’s main functions, and we encourage our members to heartily give and receive support from each other.

  • Supportive members listen to others’stories, thoughts, and suggestions, and try their best to engage with other members, give advice, and connect.

Connectedness

Above all else, we value our community’s sense of connectedness, which has not only been proven to improve mental health in adolescents, but also allows for users to find a second home in Your Airplane Mode. We aspire to bring the feeling of connectedness to as many teens as possible, and our members are what make this possible.

Open-Mindness

We hope that users can be open to new and sometimes differing opinions. This is the first step to fostering a welcoming and supportive community, as it allows users to freely share their ideas without worrying about being judged or looked down upon.

Reporting Posts or Comments

Posts and comments that we feel go against our community’s values may be removed without notification to users.

Please report any posts or comments that you believe should be reviewed by us by sending an email to yourairplanemode@gmail.com. 

Reasons a post/comment may be removed:

  • contains obscene or offensive language

  • contains ideas or language that is racist, sexist, homophobic, or any other form of discrimination

  • contains advice or ideas that are clearly harmful or unhelpful

  • invades someone’s privacy 

  • includes detailed descriptions or ideas of PTSD triggers (ex. violence, sexual abuse, etc.)

  • unveils anonymity by revealing names, faces, addresses, phone numbers, emails, etc

Moderation

Self-moderation

  • all members are expected to adhere to our community guidelines

  • members can report other posts or comments that they believe are inappropriate

 

Staff moderation

  • trained peer counselors are actively monitoring the platform, facilitating conversation, and reporting inappropriate posts/comments

  • counselors also reply to posts, making sure members in need will receive the support that they need
